Summer 2007

The killed by bears CD has been released! We think you will like it. kbb is made up of 4/5 of the members of D,Cs final line-up. Listen to some of the mp3s posted on our myspace page. Oh yeah, and hope you are having a great summer!

Your dear friends, D,C

Spring 2007

As you may or may not know, a subset of the D,C membership has been playing under the name 'killed by bears'. Expect a CD from Lather Records July 2007. Early reviews are good (I just made that up, but our friends seem to really like the demo!).

In other news, the Envelope Peasant, Inc. (aka Sean) has been seen playing around Chico, Davis, San Francisco this month. Check him out with Barbara Manning at the Makeout Room in S.F. in June.

With Love, D,C

January 2007

Has it really been a year?

Sean is currently living in Northern California, playing regularly as himself. Check him out on myspace and be his friend: The Envelope Peasant, LTD. He has been playing some of your favorite D,C songs.

Other D,C members have been playing around Portland as Killed by Bears. If an indie-folk band decided to play power-pop... We will have a CD done sometime this Spring. We are really working on it... life gets complicated sometimes.

Rejoice! Would you believe that Harvester will be recording new material in 2007? Sean and Jed have been writing songs, and are currently deciding on a date to record some (most?) of the album up in Portland. Three (maybe four... five?) members of Dearest, Crown may show up on the planned album. I think this would be their fifth full-length disc. See for yourself: discography

Ryan and Sean also have another side-project (but it's sort-of a secret)... They still get together and play music, but not under the esteemed D,C name.

As for Dearest, Crown, these days it is rare to find all five of us in the same place at the same time. That said, we still enjoy it when someone emails with a nice comment. And thanks to those who picked up our CDs lately. Hope you like them. You should try and convince us to release that E.P... Sean and Ryan have been known to pull out the acoustics at a Bar-B-Que on occassion. Give them beer first.

Stay Tuned! Love, D,C

Goodbye!

Thanks for a great five years (message from d,c). We are all still playing music and recording. Any news on Dearest, Crown related projects will be listed on this page, so please check back.

We will be releasing our "Sidecar EP" on this site. It is completely free to download. We hope you enjoy it--We had a great time recording with Johnny and Marc.

February 2005

A few weeks ago we saw this review on the Americanan-UK site. It has since disappeared for reasons unknown to us, but we managed to save a copy. Oh yeah, 6 out of 10 stars if I remember correctly. Anyway, the first sentence is priceless...

Dearest Crown ‘”The Path to Going Down” (Lava Records 2004) Available Now. Dearest Crown sound like a bunch of maths nerds who tried to start an Indie band but picked up all the wrong instruments. For the most part, especially on the up-tempo numbers, such as ‘The Last Great Shipwreck’, this gives the band an original if slightly cerebral sound. If the band had one fault it is that things are always slightly impersonal, and lack emotion, but they are not the first band to make great music despite this. Ones to watch! DW

We have collected a couple other reviews from "The Path to Going Down" which should be one this site soon.

D,C Returns to the Green Room - The show is on Friday February 11th. This is a great place and night, so if you have not come to a show in a while this would be a good one!

The recording of the EP is pretty much done. Sean says that it's 8 songs in 18 minutes. Yes, it moves along at an energetic pace, and most of it isn't even punk rock. Check back here for information. The EP will be free from this site.

D,C in the Autumn! Oh! The beautiful colors!

It appears that we may be adding a third show very soon (first two listed below), so keep checking back here for more info.

In other news, we have been creating so much new music lately, we decided on doing some recording for an EP next month.

Look for some changes to our Mailing List.
The list just keeps getting longer (occassionally shorter, sorry DJRHYMEABOUTCRIME@MUTHAFUCKAZ.COM) -- what is one to do? We are migrating existing members to a secure listserve (no ads), and our list members can subscribe or unsubscribe (why would you do that to us?) without contacting us. We will continue to only send important info to the list. Come to the this page for the the other stuff! Finally...Coming Soon! New images and detailed band member bios on the site (Who is Singing Bear?).

Nov 19th at Owen's Place in Lake Oswego. The 'official' CD release show on December 2 for both thebrotheregg and d,c at Nocturnal in PDX. Many of you have had the CD in your hands for a month or two now. This is your chance to come join the fun, buy us drinks, slap us on the back, and so forth... See the performances page for details.

Thank you to those who came to see us at MusicFest NW.

The Path to Going Down

Our new CD, The Path to Going Down is now for sale!

News!

We should be announcing the release of the new CD any day now. I know you're thinking "That's what you bastards said a billion times before." - This time we're not lying. D,C also has some great shows planned for the fall including our return to MusicfestNW Sept. 9-11 (Date and venue TBD, Last year we busted a fiddle!) and a very cool show in Northern California (details to come). Look for D,C this Wed. Aug 4 at the Portland State University campus around lunch time - follow the sound of the accordion.

Our e-mail list is alive and well. Expect an update soon. Join here.

D,C embraces technology. Technology rejects D,C.

The last mailing-list message was white text over a lovely purple background. Apparently, many mail client applications (especially the web-based ones) don't care for purple backgrounds, and decide the white is best for all emails... White text on a white background! You didn't figure it out? So, next time we will send plain text.

The Dearest, Crown Center for Public Policy

Well, it seems that Dearest, Crown have made known their political preferences... Saturday, June 26th, from 3:30 - 6 p.m. D,C is playing at a fundraiser for John Kerry. Dearest, Crown hopes to be up for the winetasting as well.
Then, it's off to an honest-to-God medical plaza for an 8pm acoustic set at Owen's Place. See the performances page for details.

"My name is John Kerry, and I approve this setlist."

Other D,C News...

Didn't get our last email announcement? Well, the e-mail list has unexpectedly come back to life. Turns out that DJRHYMEABOUTCRIME@MUTHAFUCKAZ.COM was not a real email address. Who would have guessed? The rest of you should have received our latest in your Inbox. If not, go here. Now's a great time to sign up. A new CD. More shows...

Oh yeah, please let us know if you want to carry a cello or accordion up to Angel's Rest. I've been told it's only 2 miles. Last but not least, look the hell out for mummies.

May 2004

Dearest, Crown's IPO...

The recording and mastering of 'The Path to Going Down' is now officially completed. We look forward to having a recording available of D,C as a 5-piece. Three tracks from "TPTGD" are available on the "downloads" section. There is no truth to rumors circulating in financial circles that the record was paid for by D,C incorporating as a publicly traded entity.

Dearest, Crown will be joining Carquinez Straits and The Drifter Phase for the first annual Northern California Lather Records Extravaganza in Redding and Sacramento. Todd is anxious about conditions in the Siskiyou Pass, but we think it will be o.k. It was agreed that each person was allowed to bring five CDs on the road trip.

Due to their close ties with the Haymarket Square rioters, Dearest, Crown really wanted to do a May Day acoustic set down in that indie-rock hotbed known as Lake Oswego, so they decided that they should perform at Owen's Place. The stunning performance held wives, café staff, and siblings entranced for nearly two hours. They concluded with a ragtime rendition of the Dearest, Crown Anthem. Mighty good pasta too! Also, could Leif's sister please pay her tab there next time we play? Thanks.

Other news:
Ryan had a brief encounter with a sod couch. Details remain unclear.
Leif's cello was briefly incarcerated at Cascade Appliance. It was later released.
Sean is running his 4th McDonald Forest 50k Trail Run. His goal is to beat 7 hours without becoming nauseous.
Ario has moved to Vancouver, Washington. Other band members suspect it has something to do with a girl.
Todd has cartoon characters on his checks.
